Well, again there seems to be a problem. Yesterday I put a reply on to Deanne and it
is now missing. Strange things. I need to
clear up Lost and Current. Lost only means we do not have your current address or contact information. Unless you or someone gives us your address so you can be mailed to or contacted and we can put it in the data base, you will continue to be lost even though you know where you are. Richard, I think I was the one that messed up the Message Board. When I uploaded the new EMail addresses I failed to move over the whole file, update it then reload it. I will learn from this mistake but I do not think we have lost to much. Thanks for sending the test message. We know it is working. We have been working on the Web site trying to make it better and easier to use. Robert set up the Site several years ago and did an excellent job, but time has rolled on and it is time for upgrades. Richard Davis is almost finished copying all the annuals and when he is finished they will be put on line. John Huie"s class of 1958 is almost finished with the digital photo's of thier 50th and those will be posted also. If you have any suggestions what we should change, add or improve, please let us know. We would like the site to reflect what you as Bearcats would like to see. Thanks for coming to visit the site. How disappointing to find the message board full of unnecessary, uncalled for lengthly, website posting sites from people who seem to having nothing else to do with their time. Would be nice to see this matter cleared up. It is great to have this site for regular messages as it was intended in the first place. The Wolf's

As some of you may already know one of Bonita's giants has passed away. Coach Ivan DeHerrera expired last Tuesday from heart failure. Those of us who knew Ivan can never forget his influence not only on Bonita sports, but as an unforgettable personality on and off campus. He was an outstanding wrestling coach with a winning record, and took a great interest in helping young men along the path to a better life. I have no information as yet to funeral arrangements. If anyone can help with that please do. |

I just found out about this site from Ed Turner. His wife, Barbara, (Riddle '69) is my foster sister, who I just re-connected with after 45 yrs! I did not graduate from Bonita in '65 because my sister, Linda,(Hord '67) & I moved to San Diego before graduation. I love Bonita & would like to attend future reunions, if possible, as I always considered BHS as my 'real' alma mater. Does anyone know the whereabouts of Helen Keeth who lived on Arrow Hwy? I believe she became a flight attendant for TWA after we graduated. |

We already have the date and the place for our 50th Class Reunion scheduled. October 7th, 8th, and 9th we'll be gathering at the Marriott Hotel in Ontario CA for a great reunion week-end.

But we are living in Colorado and won't be coming to Calif. till July. Gary's great uncle Ray Torrey graduated from BHS in 1907, and many other Torrey family members. Just want to say "Hello" to the few, and the proud remaining from our class. I truely regret having missed all of the reunions. I am especially sorry to read of the passing of Mr. Carrol - I have never forgotten our Bonita Cheer! "Viva Bonita, Viva Bonita, alguien grita "Viva Bonita", Uno, Dos, Tres - por quien vamos ha gritar? Bonita, Viva! I appreciate Mr. John Huey for keeping tabs on me. Hi Jack, did you ever check the data base to see if our address infomation had been changed to our Arvada, CO address. My, wife Jacquelyn has written an article for the San Dimas Historical Society on my family The San Dimas Torrey's, it was published in March. The editor of The San Dimas News read the article and published it in The San Dimas Coummity News in July and it is also posted on their web site: sandimasnews.com if anyone is interested in reading it. Thank you Jack, Nancy and John and all others who worked so hard to put this reunion together. Thanks to Ken Young for all the work on behalf of my class.
I had a fabulous time Friday and Saturday at the Double Tree and at Ken Young's house on Sunday where he and Richard Davis cooked breakfast for us. Also, Betty Torkelson and I had a great room at the hotel over looking the pool.
It was just great seeing Scott Schumann, Bernie Bays, Mike Sanchez and the rest from my class. Glad to see that they're all doing so well.
I also overdosed on In-N-Out while I was down from Oregon. Yup, I went there four times and gained 2 pounds in the week I was in Southern California. It was worth gaining the weight to be able to enjoy my favorite guilty pleasure. It's probably a good thing we don't have In-N-out in the Northwest.......as I might balloon to 200 lbs and have to give up wearing Spandex and string bikinis.
I spent almost as much time visiting with those from other classes as I did with those from my own class.
Donna Peat ('60), Sharon Tennyson, Heather Crow ('61) and Linda Steadham 9'57)are still gorgeous. And Dale Thomas ('57), Morris Lopez ('59) and Tut ('60)are as good lookin' today then back in school.
Thanks again to everyone who made this reunion worth the trip down south.

Thanks to everyone that attended Reunion 2007. It came off very well and I think everyone enjoyed it. John, Nancy and I want to thank you all for helping us by attending. We had plenty of pizza, everyone could sit down and it was cool and pleasant in the room. Saturday we had a great meal served on time and very tasty. Well the last mailer is ready to be mailed out to all those that are registered for the Reunion. Nancy will have them finished tonight. We are making the final decisions with the hotel this Friday and then bring it on. Those that are attending are going to have a enjoyable weekend and see some old friends. I'm looking forward to another reunion this summer.
Betty Torkelson Frye (62") and her husband, Jack left today after visiting with me on their way back to the Bay Area from British Columbia where they lived for one week. Yup, that's what I said.....one week. They decided that since the Democrats took over Congress, they would stay in the US after all. Okay, so that's not exactly right but like me, they are "lefties." Actually they wanted to be closer to their children and grand children.
Also today, I sent and received e-mails from Sherman Anders (62') and Ron Blash (60'). Sherm is in Blanchard, Idaho and Ron is in Oregon with me. Well, not exactly with me. He's with his wife but we're both in Oregon. Don't want his wife mad at me so I'd best clarify that.

We had our first reunion meeting. Sixteen people attended and they all want to go forth and have another reunion in 2007. We will plan to do the first mailing in January to all the classes that want to participate. By changing a couple of things we will be able to keep the cost to $65 per person. The next meeting of the reunion committee will be held November 16th (thursday) at the Cask and Cleaver in Cucamonga. We will again meet in the bar first and the back room at 7:00pm. All of you that want to participate on the committee are welcome to attend. We need all the help we can get and we welcome your input. We are trying to keep it down and it looks like $65 may be the magic number. Every year they raise the prices on us but 3 years ago it was 60 so 65 should work. How was the Centennial Reunion??
I was not able to attend it because my wife & I were in Mexico for a week with our church helping to build a house with YUGO.org near Chapultepec (about 1-1/2 hours south of the border). I highly recommend the service project to you.

It was worth driving down from Oregon just to see Mike Quinn, who moved to Upland from San Dimas shortly before we entered our first and only year at "old Bonita". We "liked" each other in 8th grade! Ranking right next to that was getting to "two step" with Sherman Anders, who's a great dancer, but who in high school would never dance to anything faster then "16 Candles". |

My son Jeff & his wife Katie (Upland, CA) are the proud parents of Samuel Rian Phillips, their first child & my first grandchild, on July 2, while I was flying to Minneapolis (on my way to Kazakhstan). All three are doing well.
My daughter Jennifer & her husband Cameron (Agoura Hills, CA) are the proud parents of Connor Nicholas Rogstad, their first child & my second grandchild, on July 13, while I was in Almaty, Kazakhstan. All three are doing well.
I guess Margaret & I now will be spending a lot more time in So Cal than we have in the last 33 years. I'll bring a few photos to our 40th Class Reunion next June 19th in La Verne. |

Linda, yes there are several things that are coming up in the near future. First we are redoing the web site and will be moving it to a new server which will cut the monthly cost by 60%. Next, we are getting the pictures taken by individuals and will have them posted (candid shots). Nancy is working on the memory books with Worthington and those will be mailed to the people who attended and will also be available to those people wanting to purchase them. We will have a page available to put in your order and send John a check. We will also have the Reunion 2003 Mugs available for those that did not get one or those wanting to have a couple more. That is in the works also. Right now we are all kind of taking a break. John, Nancy and myself have been working on Reunion 2003 for over a year and we needed a rest. In a couple of weeks we will be ready to get things moving. If you have any other suggestions we would love to hear from you. With your ideas we can make the web site better. First of all thank you so much Jack,and the rest of you who put the Class Reunion together. I would like to say to all of you who know my cousin's Sally Gomez and Lorraine that they said hi to the class of 1952 and 1958. Lorraine just got out of the hospital and is doing fine. She did plan on going but, that Thurday before the Reunion she had gone into the hospital. Keep her in your prayers. I'm looking forward to the one in 2004 and praying I see more of class 1967 there then just 2 classmates!

A span of 51 years was closed at the celebration reunion for me. My youngest son, Mike, chose to escort me on my trip back in the time capsule to my past and back to the present thereby creating the future with his Mom. This remarkable young man of 46 knows no Generation Gap, enjoying as much as I. Thank you Jack and Committee for your hard work in producing a Spectacular unequalled in my nearly 70 years. THE CLASS REUNION
Every few years, as summertime nears, an announcement arrives in the mail,
A reunion is planned; it'll be really grand; Make plans to attend without fail.
I'll never forget the first time we met; we tried so hard to impress.
We drove fancy cars, smoked big cigars, and wore our most elegant dress.
It was quite an affair; the whole class was there, it was held at a fancy hotel.
We wined, and we dined, and we acted refined, and everyone thought it was swell.
The men all conversed about who had been first to achieve great fortune and fame.
Meanwhile, their spouses described their fine houses and how beautiful their children became.
The homecoming queen, who once had been lean, now weighed in at one-ninety-six.
The jocks that were there had all lost their hair, and the cheerleaders no longer did kicks.
No one had heard about the class nerd who'd guided a spacecraft to the moon;
or poor little Jane, who had always been plain; she married a shipping tycoon.
The boy we'd decreed "most apt to succeed" was serving ten years in the pen.
While the one voted "least" was now a priest; just shows you can be wrong now and then.
They awarded a prize to one of the guys who seemed to have aged the least.
Another was given to the grad that had driven the farthest to attend the great feast.
They took a class picture, a curious mixture of beehives, crew cuts and wide ties.
Tall, short, or skinny, the style was the mini; you can imagine the variety of thighs.
At our next get-together, no one cared whether, they impressed their classmates or not. The mood was informal, a whole lot more normal; by this time we'd all gone to pot.
It was held out-of-doors, down by the lakeshores; we ate hamburgers, coleslaw, and beans.
Then most of us lay around in the shade, in our comfortable T-shirts and jeans.
By the fortieth year, it was abundantly clear; we were definitely over the hill,
those who weren't dead, had to crawl out of bed, and be back home in time for their pill.
And now I can't wait; they've set the date; our fiftieth is coming, I'm told.
It should be a ball; they've rented a hall, at the Shady Rest Home for the old.
Repairs have been made on my old hearing aid; my pacemaker's turned up on high.
My wheelchair is oiled, and my teeth have been boiled; and I've bought a new wig and glass eye.
I'm feeling quite hearty, and I'm ready to party I'm going to dance 'til dawn's early light.
It'll be lots of fun; but I just hope there's one; other person who can make it that night.

A big THANK YOU to you Jack and all the Committee for a wonderful time last week end. I was just a guest but I really enjoyed seeing all of the Bonita Bearcats having so much fun. I knew many of them that went on to MSAC. At our table we had Keith Green and his Wife,Connie, and Kathryn Green Curtis (my Wife). Their Father, Mr. E. N. Green taught at Bonita for 33 years. He retired in 1961 so you younger ones would not remember him. I think the Gym at the new Bonita still bears his name. Also at our table we had Mr. Green's little sister, Charlotte Green Lutz. She is now in her 80s and she really enjoyed being able to come to the reunion. Her Brothers the "Green Boys" attended and graduated from Bonita in the early days. Her Father was the Editor of The La Verne Leader and had a lot to do with changing the name from Lordsburg to La Verne after Mr. Lord died.
Charlotte told me she remembers standing on top of the La Verne Leader's roof and watching the planes go over on Armistice Day when World War I was over.

Jack, John Huie, Barbara Yehle...I shouldn't start naming names..so many of you helped with the reunion, and it was a wonderful one! I had such a good time seeing old friends again, and squinting at name tags. My only disappointment was that the music at the banquet was so loud it was hard to hold a conversation. My husband told them we may be old, but we aren't all deaf, but it didn't work. The food was great, and the whole thing went so smoothly. Too bad about the "pizza sharks", but I guess there are some people like that in any crowd as diversified as that one was. Anyway, many thanks. I'm looking forward to attending the next one. |

I could use some of the photos and memoriabilia you had on desplay for the History Musium we're putting together for next year to be displayed in the Library. We what to thank all those Bearcats who attended Reunion 2003 and made it a huge success. It was fun to see all the happy faces and people having a good time. All the teachers were able to make it and their wives. For the Pizza Party we had 450 people and except for the glitch of running out of pizza and having to send out for more everything went well. The group were able to consume 135 large pizza's. That is 1620 slices of pizza. At the saturday nite event we served 550 dinners. The Double Tree did an excellent job of serving and the meals were excellent. The staff did a great job and made our event go very smoothly. Thanks again to all who attended. We enjoyed seeing all of you. The web site will continue, we love to see your input. If you would like to see it changed, tell us how. On behalf of John Huie, Nancy Brooks, and the Committee we would like to thank all of you for making the Reunion 2003 a place where we could renew old friendships and share our lives together once again. Thanks to all who worked so hard to put on a great Bearcat Reunion. It was great to renew old friendships with not only our classmates, but friends from classes that came before and after us. I also enjoyed talking to the Instructors and Principals that attended.
I would also like to add my praise to this great Website! Excellent job Jack! Keep up the good work. I know it takes a lot of work to put a website together and keep it current. Well, we are really having a Reunion. John and I went to the Double Tree and paid the bill. I had a call about coming at the last minute. We do not turn anyone away. This is your reunion and if at the last minute you decide you can make it, we will register you at the door. This is good for 5% over our final count. We are looking forward to seeing all of you and having a good time at Bearcat Reunion 2003. If you do feel you are coming at the last minute, call John Huie at 909 625-3076 so he can make up the Name Badges in advance. See ya all starting Friday at 4:00. For those bringing cars or whatever, the parking for the car show is on the north side of the hotel and will be blocked off for us. Well, the reunion is getting really close now. John has to meet with the hotel on Tuesday go give them the final count and pay for all the meals. We have had a lot of people register on line but we have never received a check. Those people need to contact John Huie at 909 625-3076

I will clear up the confusion about the Pizza Party. The Pizza Party will be held at the Double Tree Hotel starting at 6:00 and will go until 10:00PM. All persons who would like to attend are welcome. This is an informal event and you may pay at the door. The cost is $5.00 per person. We have a seperate room for the pizza party and it is not as large as the main ball room. The Pizza Party was started at the Reunion in 1997 as an added casual event for Friday Night in addition to the Main Reunion on Saturday Night. It has become a very popular part of the Reunions. The reunions are lots of fun and we hope you will enjoy the event and come and join us on Saturday Nite also. The committee has worked very hard to make this a fun event for everyone to see old classmates and make new friends. Hope to see you all there. Jack |

The word is out that some of you may be planning on attending only to the Pizza party Friday night and then have a plan to show up after dinner on Saturday night for the main reunion (And not pay for the Saturday night event).
If that is YOU, then this message is for you:
What a lousy thing to do to the people who have put so much time, energy and funds into seeing that this event is actually going to take place. There are minimum guarantees that must be paid to the Doubletree Hotel.
The price of putting on the reunion is not just about the dinner costs, so think about what you may be planning to do. There are minimum guarantees that must be paid to the Doubletree Hotel, regardless of the number of attendees. The deposits, room, decorations, dj, momentos, memory book, etc. are also part of the costs of the reunion. It is unthinkable that anyone would sneak in after the dinner is over!
Jack Worden, John Huie, and Nancy Steckel have been extremely generous with their time, etc., in making sure that this reunion is one we will all remember. Don't do this to them or to the rest of us Bearcats that are paying for the event. By not stepping up to the plate and paying your fair share, you are putting the possibility of future Bearcat Reunions in serious jeopardy. And that will affect a lot of us already look forward to the next one in three years.

Hello Everyone! It is great to see all the response for the 100th Anniversary. My husband Don and I will be attending and looking forward to seeing classmates. I graduated BHS in 1968, my sister, Jill graduated in l969, my sister, Stephanie in l970, my brother, John in l977 and my brother Kris in l981. All of us except for John live in Southern California. John is in Oregon.

I will be attending versus attending the hundred year anniversary of flight at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, where I retired in 1991, while working for the Department of Defense. This 100 year celebration is more important! I'm bringing my favorite Flight Attendant with me Sandy Yslas, glass of 71-72. We will be traveling there at Mach 5, entering the flight path at Ontario International Airport utilizing the Lockheed Martin F-35 STOVL, that my sisters Adrienne Yates and Gloria Donovan helped generate. Reunion 2003 is just one month away. Since the Ballroom is larger it will be cooler with more room. The hotel has extended the room rate for $79 until this Friday May 23rd. If you are planning on staying in the hotel, be sure and call by Friday. John Huie and I are trying to post the people attending weekly so you can see who is attending. I hope this makes it more fun. Just a reminder to everyone who is planning on attending the Reunion, last June, John, Nancy and myself signed a contract with Double Tree so we could have the event at this larger and better location. We have noticed a lot of people are signing up for the Pizza Party but are not planning on attending the Reunion Saturday Night. Our contract with the Hotel is for Saturday Nite, not the Pizza Party. We do not mind having people make that choice, but if that choice results in our being unable to meet our contract with the Hotel, this will be the last time we are able to host a Bearcat Reunion. Hopefully most of you who are signing up will be able to attend the Pizza Party and the Reunion Dinner Saturday Nite and we will meet the contract. Called the Double Tree to find out the problem. All the reservations for Friday had been used up
so it raised everything to the higher rate. They have added more rooms to our block so you can
still get the rooms for $79 until May 23rd. After that date you are on your own as to what is available
and what ever rate they are going for. If you are planning on staying at the Hotel, you better call
before the 23rd. This is the best I can do. We are over 150 room nites booked for our event so
a lot of people are staying at the hotel. Make sure and get your Reunion Reservations in to John
Huie soon so we can list you on the Web Site and John has time to get all the name badges made
up. He has a big job. Looking forward to seeing all of you at Reunion 2003. This will be the best
Reunion yet. You can contact us if you have more problems or need questions answered or your

of pictures from the annuals on line. You can click on the page to enlarge and then hold the pointer in the corner until a square box appears and you can enlarge it again. Just want to say hello to members of the class of 1960. I only attended Bonita during the year of 1957 and was then asked to leave. I finished at Pomona Catholic. However, I have remained friends with some of the class of 60 and 62 for many years. I did attend a Bonita reunion , I believe in 1980 or 1981. I would like to say hello to Jack worden, who use to be my optician, and Jack, I am stil a little color blind.
My good friends Danny and Cissy Escoto just returned home to LaVerne from my home here in Hawaii. We had a great visit and they provided me with the infor re: the up coming Reunion. I just retired from United Airlines after flying for them for 34 years. My wife Candy and I are currently residing in Kailua Hawaii on the island of Oahu.

The reunion attendee's list is current as of 3/30/03. This is all we have received. John has gone to Austria for 2 weeks so no new ones will be added until he returns. For those people who will be bringing the classic cars and hot rods to the Pizza party on Friday
Night, we have heard the concerns about wheather your car will be there in the morning with all the
wheels still in place. I agree with your concerns so we will be providing a security guard to stay
up all night and watch the vehicles. I spoke to the Hotel already about this. The head of Security
for the Hotel will get back to me with the suggestion on who we should hire. We will do everything
we can to make the sure your vehicle is secure. Hope this answers the concerns. If you can do

I have entered the graduates from Bonita in 1924,1925, and 1926. Type in the class year and take a look at the names. Very interesting. Galen Smith is Larry, Lewis and Robert Smiths Dad.
He graduated in 1926. Richard has scanned the class pictures from 48, 49, 50 also so we still need 51 and 52. Any annuals available? We are also trying to find 1938 to 1947. Claudia, we actually do not have a list of those classmates that are deceased. We have the class lists
that people in the classes have kept together over the years and we have classed the people into
three areas, Current (ones we have an address for), Lost (ones we haven't been able to find) and
Deceased (for those that we know have passed on). Sometimes however the class list person
may think someone has passed on and he is really with us. That is the case with Richard and his
brother Bob. To find the people who are lost, we have a page listing them. For those that are
Deceased, you must go to the class year and look up the name. We do not have a special list for
Deceased. I have a lot of updates on the desk that are going on the web site this morning. By this

We are sorry for the problem with the web site. The people that host it had a problem with the server so we were off the air for 3 days. It looks like they have fixed it. We did not loose any information and we are greatful for that. We appreciate those that sent E Mails letting us know there was a problem. We had our committee meeting and things are coming
along very well. We are ready to make the second mailing. You may register by mail, at the web site or down load the form and mail it in with your check. I have all the classes listed except for 1955, 1956, 1962 and 1963. I will be working on 1955 next. When you find mistakes, let me know and I will correct them, what ever the reason. I have also added the graduates from 1904 to 1912. I am working on 1913 to 1923 which is the class my mother was in. Robert has changed the design of the web site and it seems to work much better and loads up wider so you do not have to scroll as much. We currently have 75 people signed up or registered. They are not all entered yet so be patient with us. Remember, we are doing this as a hobby so give us a little extra time. I am becoming way to familiar with this computer, but in the end when we have a great reunion it will all be worth it. We will be adding another page with all the classmates that are lost. We hope people will look at it and give us some help finding these people. The web site is our first chance to tell everyone just who we are missing. Hopefully we will be able to find some more classmates. We know they are out there, because they registed on Classmates.com. We just can't get them to reply to the messages we send. We hope our web site will help because we do not filter anything between classmates. If you see someone listed on the web site, you can use the address and send an E Mail. You do not go thru us. Jack, I called the last number I had for Bob Belknap which is (909)593-4291. I left a message but no answer. I have the Kingpins logo ie the car plaque. I was going to ask Bob when the club was started and when it ended. If there were any shirts made they would have the logo on the back and maybe a small Kingpins, San Dimas lettering with the dates on the front maybe above the pocket or pocket area. Could you find those dates for me.
It would also be interesting to have someone do the history of the club. The 37 (or was it a 38) coupe, the motors built by Binks, tires from Wally Mickel, on and on. I have a pretty good recollection of the Richfield Economy run to Las Vegas, the Dodge 501 convertable with Hemi in it.
Let me know about the dates.

Doug, I just talked with Mr. Belknap (Bob) the father and he thought it would be fun to get together. Maybe we could do it at the hotel and before or after the pizza party. Doug, the car show part is for anyone that has a car, bike, etc that they would like to show off to bring it and we will set aside an area in the parking lot so everyone can enjoy your pride and joy or fruits of your labor. Larry and Rosemary, We will be happy to see you both at the reunion. We are getting a great response and lots of people looking forward to it. We have been working on the class lists and have completed 1951, 1952, 1954, 1957, 1960, 1964 and will get 1949 on the web site as it is finished and Robert is working on listing it. Well, Robert has managed to untangle the classes of 1951 and 1964.
One is now in the front seat and the other in the back seat. If you could
check the content and let us know if they are close or if we have missed
someone. I hope to get a good copy of the class of 1966 so we can complete
that class. Any other classes that we only have a few names that I got from
Classmates, we need a list or better yet an excel file that we can use. My goal

We have had a problem with the class lists wanting to mate. Just like in High School. I fixed the class of 1964 this morning and it looks OK. Robert and I are working on the Web Site and he has done a great job. Now people can register on line if they would like to or by mail if they prefer. We know we have a problem with the class lists and are working on correcting the mistakes.
If you give us another week, we should have everyone in the proper class. This is a bigger job than I thought, but having to get it correct is even harder. Be patient with us and it should be fixed in a week. Thanks Jack

Victoria, got your message and understand the confusion. The reunion committee that put on the Reunion 2000 at the Marriott Hotel is putting on another reunion on June 21st of 2003. We are calling this Reunion 2003. We promised in 2000 to have another reunion in 3 years. We are celebrating Bonita's founding in 1903. There is a seperate committee which is called the Centennial Committee with is planning on having many events during the 2003-2004 school year which will end with an event at the Fairplex in 2004. They will be using Reunion 2003 as a kick off for the year long events for 2003-2004. We have a link on the web site so you can go to the Bonita High School web site and get the latest info on the Centennial Committee. If you have any further questions I will try to get the answers.
